The Fortress of Palmanova, candidate for recognition as Unesco world Heritage

The Starry Town of Palmanova is candidate for recognition as Unesco world Heritage. Palmanova is based on a unique model, a perfectly symmetrical nine-pointed star, with a central piazza – the historic fortress square. Piazza Grande is surrounded by many historical Venetian palaces, such as the Loggia of the Guard, the Palace of the General Proveditors, the Pawn Palace and the Palace of the Governor of Arms, which, as a whole, constitute an example of serial military architecture. It is also overlooked by the magnificent Doge's Cathedral. An opportunity not to be missed is the visit of to the Civic History Museum and to the Historical military museum and the tour outside the walls, where it is possible to see several fortified elements, like the gate, the bulwark, the ravels, the Napoleonic lunette. Nowadays Palmanova has been nominated to the UNESCO World Heritage Site from the UNESCO International Commission. In fact the Starry Town belongs to the series of Venetian Defense Works dating back to a period between the 15th and the 17th centuries, nominated in Paris, on January, to be enrolled into the UNESCO - World Heritage List, together with other fortified cities in Italy, Croatia and Montenegro. Partners of this initiative for Italy are Bergamo, Palmanova, Peschiera del Garda and Venice, for Croatia are Zadar, Sibenik, Hvar and Korcula; and Castelnuovo , Kotor and Ulcinj for Montenegro. This is the unique nomination for Italy in the year 2016.
